Course in a couple of words: “Useful, interesting, opportunity - thank you!”
Every teacher’s dream is a motivated, bright, and active student who is eager to learn more and who you can also learn from. The Academic Writing Center and the trainer Tatiana Golechkova were lucky to gather a team of dream students for the course “Lecturing in English: Teaching vs. Learning.”
Many of the colleagues who joined the course this spring are the HSE star lecturers with impressive teaching experience. What goals did they pursue in taking the course? And what about those who have just started lecturing in English? How can a trainer marry the needs of experienced and early-career teachers?
We would like to share some of the challenges that the course participants wanted to deal with during the course:
- engaging and motivating students
- structuring material effectively
- balancing clarity and accessibility against the complexity of the subject
- ensuring maximum intake of the information
- supporting students whose mother tongue is not English
- optimizing work with terminology.
“Lecturing in English: Teaching vs. Learning” has been on our program for some time, but it seems that this year Tatiana tackled a rather challenging but exciting task. Was it accomplished? Look at the word cloud to see what the participants think about the course:

If your professional goals and interests include some of those mentioned by the colleagues, don’t miss the course next year!
