Academic precision as a path to visibility

We are all aware that in order to communicate our research results to the global academia we have to adopt the academic register. But what does it really mean and why is it essential for increasing our credibility and visibility?

Academic precision as a path to visibility

On February 11, the participants of the workshop “How to adapt to audiences using academic precision and register” discussed these questions. The speaker Olesya Petrenko provided an overview of the key features of the academic register and the most common cases of its misuse. The workshop was highly practical with a variety of tasks that allowed the participants to analyze subtle, but salient nuances of the academic register.

The main takeaway: if you aim for higher visibility in academia, there is a whole toolkit of linguistic strategies at your disposal.

Let’s hear the participants’ voices:

“The speaker prepared a high-quality detailed presentation and constantly communicated with the audience. The workshops included diverse topics and tasks, so it was easy to focus and follow the content.”

“It was highly interactive, friendly, with a lot of relevant examples; the topic was interesting.”

“Informal atmosphere, the speaker's comprehensive explanations, simple yet effective tasks, life-hacks”

Do you know how the use of “I”, “we”, and the Passive Voice shows the author’s stance and helps to effectively engage with the audience? If not, don’t miss the recording of the workshop on our VK page. And next time register and join us to ask questions and engage in a discussion with colleagues.
