Workshop "Fit or no fit – that’s the editor’s question!"

You spent months doing research and writing a paper, but the editor promptly rejected it claiming that it wasn't a good fit for the journal. Unfortunately, rejection is one of the most annoying experiences in academic publishing. This interactive online workshop aims to transform your frustration into a strategic approach. We will move beyond the hazy idea of "fit" and provide a clear way to grasp what editors are truly looking for when they decide if a submission is suitable.

We will:

decode the journal’s scope

To comprehend a journal's intellectual identity and preferences, you need to be able to read between the lines of its "Aims & Scope."

explore the editor's mindset

To identify what affects their "fit" decisions, you need to know some practicalities that editors encounter (citation metrics, readership, and niche filling).

discuss things that are beyond the abstract

To show flawless congruence, you need to know how to frame the whole document, from the title and abstract to your contribution and reference list.

use practical tools

You'll get a checklist to help you methodically examine target journals before submission, which will greatly improve your chances of getting over the initial editorial hurdle.
