Crafting effective paragraphs for academic excellence
This semester, the Academic Writing Center menu offers three new courses. One of them is a face-to-face one-day course aimed at helping participants improve the quality of their writing through crafting logical and coherent paragraphs.
The course “Paragraph as a Text Building Block,” which was held on November 16, was developed by Tatiana Martseva specifically for HSE researchers. The focus of this course was the paragraph as a fundamental unit of a well-written, logically organized text.
During the day, participants analyzed the structure of a paragraph in English, types of paragraph organization, and culturally specific conventions of argument development in a paragraph. As always, there was a lot of practice: participants completed tasks, wrote paragraphs on their research topic, and exchanged peer feedback.
We would like to thank Tatiana for a highly insightful course and the group for their diligence and positive feedback:
- “I found each activity to be both interesting and valuable. Analyzing texts has significantly enhanced my writing skills”
- “There was a friendly atmosphere. And everyone was very active, initiative. It looked like all the students were interested in the topic no matter what level of experience in writing they had.”
- “Thank you for the course! It was incredibly beneficial to engage with the material. and interact with my colleagues. Overall, it was a rewarding experience!”
