Our writing menu: Take a bite!
One question we get quite a lot is how often the Academic Writing Center offers new courses. The answer is: every year!
We constantly review and update our writing menu and add new courses to meet your needs.
This semester we have launched three new courses. The first of them, "Writing for International Audiences: A Crash Course on Research Article Structure and Language," ran from September 23 until November 5 and was designed by the AWC trainer Vera Dugartsyrenova. Its main objective is to introduce participants to international research writing conventions with the focus on IMRaD structure and the language of a research article. Participants study samples from published articles and practice using essential grammar and vocabulary patterns typical of every article section. The highlight of the course is a unique online platform that provides plenty of language practice and is available to participants after the end of the course.
The course participants shared their impressions and takeaways:
“I learned a lot of useful information about the structure of a scientific paper's sections and authentic academic vocabulary. Besides, the course offered explicit common guidelines for citing and references. I overcame my fear of writing an English-language article!”
“The course has helped me to understand the structure and specific language conventions required in international research articles. I gained practical knowledge about organizing my ideas clearly and presenting findings in a way that meets academic standards.”
“Brilliant trainer Vera, who was always approachable, and a wonderful platform with tasks - useful and clear! I am grateful for this excellent opportunity to practice my academic writing! It was sincerely a very well organized and interesting course.”
Although course registration is over this semester, we’ll definitely surprise you after the winter holidays. The AWC program for the spring term will be posted on our website in December and will include new educational products as well as tried-and-true ones.
