The basics of IMRaD: Your route to an international publication
Each semester, the AWC program includes both brand-new courses and tried-and-true ones.
In May, a new cohort of HSE researchers successfully completed one of the AWC long-established courses "Language of Research Writing: From Learning to Individual Production." The course was designed by the AWC trainer Vera Dugartsyrenova for those colleagues who are at the beginning of their route to an international research publication. Participants learn about the structure of the sections of an IMRaD article and the conventional language patterns used in each section. As a special bonus, the group make use of a unique learning platform where they can practice the relevant language. On top of that, participants draft texts for various parts of their own article and receive personalized feedback from the trainer.
Each year, the colleagues who take part in the course share how the new skills help them advance their academic career:
- “I was really involved in the course because now l’m writing my own article and it was useful for me to understand how to write it properly. I would like to thank the course instructor, Vera, for developing this course and for the opportunity to use the materials!”
- “The course is insanely interesting and useful. I have gained a lot of knowledge and will definitely publish my research article.”
- “I have significantly improved the way I write my texts in English (thanks to Vera's comments and materials). I have learned a lot of useful collocations, which I'll use after the course. It's also important that I have written my paper.”
If you are still on your way to a publication in a high-ranking international journal, don’t miss the course next year.
The AWC takes a short summer break to come back to you in September with new course programs and workshop topics. Stay tuned and enjoy writing with us!
