Collaboration of writing centers all over the world
On November 16-18 the National Writing Centres Consortium held its fifth international conference “TESOL Contexts: Global Practices of Teaching Academic Writing,” which gathered writing professionals from 8 countries.
The AWC team couldn’t miss this remarkable event. We took part in the conference to speak about our best practices and initiate meaningful discussions on issues of importance to all academic writing instructors.
The AWC Director Svetlana Suchkova moderated a roundtable discussion “The Role of Writing Centers in Developing Academic Literacy.” At the discussion, writing center representatives from Brazil, the USA, and five Russian cities talked about their centers’ activities, the challenges they face, and the directions for future development.
The AWC manager Natalia Fedorova gave a talk on ways of maintaining the quality of educational events during the online transition and strategies writing centers can employ to support writing instructors in this transition.
We were pleased to see colleagues’ interest in our activities and to answer questions. We are looking forward to the next National Consortium’s conference to make our contribution and share experience with specialists from other centers, cities, and countries.
