The nuts and bolts of business correspondence
What can help you make your weekend both enjoyable and meaningful? The AWC one-day courses!
We successfully tested this new format last year, so it is definitely here to stay. This semester, we are also offering several intensive and focused one-day programs.
The first one took place on September 23. It was certainly a fruitful day for participants. During the course, they:
-
discussed emailing conventions and expectations in various cross-cultural contexts
-
studied examples of both successful and unsuccessful emails in English
-
analyzed the impression badly-worded emails produce on readers and discussed the reasons why such missteps should be avoided
-
discussed the politeness theory and tools that can help resolve a delicate situation with grace
-
worked in mini-groups and wrote a few emails aimed at dealing with sensitive situations
-
drew up an algorithm to first write and then proofread an email taking into account typical mistakes non-native writers make.
We are pleased that the course met the colleagues’ expectations:
-
“There is a great balance between activities and theory. It lived up to my expectations. Thanks!”
-
"The course was really helpful even in terms of communicating with colleagues and exchanging ideas. Thank you very much again for guiding all the participants during the course."
-
“Everything was perfect: the teacher, the participants, and the learning materials. I think the most useful was experience sharing, because you learn how other people cope with different situations.”
Many thanks to the course trainer Tatiana Golechkova, who involved all the participants and encouraged them to learn and share.
There are more courses to come this semester. You can choose a program that fits in with your schedule and meets your learning needs. Join us!
