Academic presentation booster: From PechaKucha to posters and more

Are you a frequent conference speaker? Are you determined not only to spread your ideas but also to make an impression? Check out the AWC new course that we launched this spring.

Academic presentation booster: From PechaKucha to posters and more

The online course “Mastering Academic Presentations: From Posters to Virtual Talks” focused on dos and don’ts of academic presentations of various formats: poster, online, and offline sessions. Ekaterina Redkina, the AWC trainer and the author of the new program, guided participants through the process of crafting a powerful presentation, from visuals to verbal and non-verbal communication with the audience. At the final of the four interactive sessions, the colleagues gave their presentations in the chosen format and shared feedback.

Bonus takeaway: apart from traditional presentations, Ekaterina spoke about such unusual formats as PechaKucha, fishbowl, and others. As it turns out, there is more to sharing your ideas than a formal presentation.

For most of the participants, the session about poster presentations was the most informative as well as the tips on presenting online:

  • “It was very useful to learn about the position of the speaker in front of the camera and the engagement of the audience. Besides, I had never made a poster presentation before. Now I am familiar with its layout, design, and online presentation etiquette.”
  • “The course was a real and manageable challenge. The atmosphere of support created by the trainer helped us to make real progress in professional presentation language and skills. I especially appreciate the practice, the home tasks, and the reasonable level of challenge. The AWC courses are always high-quality, and I recommend them to my colleagues.”
  • “The course was precise and comprehensive. I am very impressed with the level of the trainer's commitment and her approach to creating and delivering the course. Many thanks to the course organizers and to the trainer!”

The Academic Writing Center is taking a summer break - to recharge and come back with fresh ideas. Have an exciting and inspiring summer and return in autumn to join our courses and workshops!
