Building confidence in public speaking
What do you think is the most common fear, regardless of gender, age, or country? Fear of public speaking is a strong contender: according to various sources, it affects up to 77% of the world's population. This is probably why the “Public Speaking Crash Course”, developed by Zhenya Bakin specially for HSE researchers, has remained popular with AWC visitors for several years.
This semester we held this course the fourth time on March 15. Participants explored the structure of effective presentations in English, learned strategies for confident speaker behavior, practiced useful phrases, and recorded their presentations to receive personalized feedback from the trainer.
We are always excited to receive your feedback on the practical benefits of the course and your personal insights and takeaways:
- "This course allowed me to practice extensively in a short period of time, which I had never experienced before. I also gained a lot of useful phrases and techniques that can be applied to any kind of presentation. I am confident that I will use these skills in my work.”
- “It takes 7 hours, but we’re still alive and full of energy, thanks to the tangible results — I now have the structure and draft of my future presentation!”
- “I had my first experience presenting in English and learned how to engage the audience. The course taught me how to structure presentations and communicate ideas effectively, highlighting the differences between English and Russian presentations.”
