AI marathon to foster research writing

Immerse yourself in the AI sea to deepen your AI competency for research writing. Join the journey to practice AI tools that can become your writing assistants. During the journey, there will be several stops to perform certain tasks. The final port of destination will be your AI-based presentation about the journey impressions and outcomes.

Stations:

  1. “My best fit” (choosing a journal)

  2. Literature search (searching English-medium sources)

  3. Foreign sources (working with non-English databases)

  4. Smart reading” (selecting core papers, reading and summarizing)

  5. My paper blueprint” (generating paper outline)

  6. Data processing” (working with data)

  7. Improving articulation” (working on articulation/phonetics)

  8. Smart visualization” (generating images and infographics)

  9.  “Creating a presentation”

  10. My outcome”

Prerequisists

To participate in this course, please make sure you bring the following:

  • a laptop

  • a formulated research question or research topic

  • a brief description of your research or article abstract.

Optional: bring raw data in any format, such as an Excel spreadsheet, text, audio recording, or video recording.

The author of the concept: Svetlana Suchkova, Ph.D., associate professor, a teacher of English, teacher trainer, Cambridge examiner, and director of HSE Academic Writing Center.  She has widely published in the field of ELT methodology. She authored a number of EFL course books for Russian university students and academics, including English for Academics series (CUP) и How to Write a Research Article (Nauka). She has participated with presentations and workshops in numerous national and international conferences. She is a Vice-president of the National Writing Centers Consortium.

How do I get accepted? The course is offered on a competitive basis. Please fill out an online registration form and write a motivation letter in English (about 300 words). Please describe your experience of using AI tools for preparing a research publication. Explain why you would like to participate in the course and how the new skills are relevant to your teaching and / or research.
