Conference proposal: Tell your story to the world

What is a conference proposal? What can it be compared to? Our online workshop on March 10th started with this question.

Conference proposal: Tell your story to the world

Participants suggested a variety of answers: a proposal is a synopsis, a teaser, a pitch of your research. The speaker Elena Isakova invited colleagues to look at the proposal from a different perspective: it’s a concise story of your research, and the way you tell it determines whether or not you get a chance to tell a fuller version.

The workshop “Conference proposal: Reviewer’s insights” provided the attendees with useful tips and plentiful practice. Elena put special emphasis on the conventions of inclusive language and principles of ethical AI use in writing submissions. On top of that, the participants were able to wear a reviewer’s hat and evaluate a number of authentic conference proposals.

Some feedback:

  • “Elena was very engaging, and it felt like we were a team and learnt together even though we were online. It was also quite practical.”
  • “The session was very well organized, so it was easy to follow and digest. I liked how the speaker handled the audience, the variety of tasks, and the friendliness of the speaker. The part concerning inclusive language was really helpful!”
  • “It was engaging, interesting, and useful! Clear plan of work with conference proposals and useful suggestions on how to improve a draft”

We thank Elena for her contribution and remind you to register for our next online session where we’ll speak about emotional intelligence and its significance for professional communication.
