The Academic Writing Center goes global

Europe, Asia, North America—where hasn’t the AWC made its mark? Now South America knows us, too!

From November 4–8, Universidad del Norte, Barranquilla, Colombia, hosted the 5th International Congress of the Latin American Association of Writing Studies in Higher Education and Professional Contexts (ALES). The conference brought together writing specialists from 128 universities across 19 countries. HSE University was represented by Natalia Fedorova, manager of the Academic Writing Center.

Natalia delivered a presentation titled “Catering to Academics’ Needs: Writing Center-Based Research,” sharing with colleagues what research the Center conducts to offer HSE faculty the most effective linguistic support in the most up-to-date educational formats.

Natalia was the sole representative from Russia at the conference. Her presentation was met with genuine interest and sparked questions and discussions. Now the Center and HSE have made new friends and potential partners on yet another continent.
