How does AI change the writing instructor’s roles?

That is one of the questions that was widely discussed at the world biggest forum on academic writing - The 21^st Symposium on Second Language Writing. It was held in Taipei, Taiwan, on October 23-25, 2025.

The HSE Academic writing center’s director, Svetlana Suchkova, gave a talk “Writing center’s identity in the AI era,” which provoked an interesting discussion. The concept and the format of AI marathon, which she focused on, was heartily welcomed by colleagues, writing center directors from various countries.

The most burning issues was whether AI could lead to the death of writing centers. Our answer is a definite “no.” At least not in HSE.
