Roundtables and discussions (30 min)
Each roundtable is 30 minutes. It should be focused on one topic/problem, which can stimulate a discussion and networking. Proposals should clearly indicate the problem, possible solutions or actions and include questions to be discussed. Presenter(s) should give a brief introduction to the topic followed by a discussion. Roundtable conveners are encouraged to leave five minutes to summarize the discussion at the end.
Workshops (60 min)
Each workshop lasts 60 minutes. Leave 10 minutes for Q&A. Presenters should involve participants in activities and discussions, and stimulate exchange of knowledge and their experiences. Please explain the need for the workshop and clearly indicate the types of activities and questions to be discussed/practiced.
Research paper presentations (20 min)
Research paper presentations are 20 minutes, with additional 10 minutes allotted to questions and comments. Presenters are encouraged to clearly indicate the context, research question, methods, results of research, and its implications.
Teaching practice presentations (20 min)
Teaching practice presentations are 20 minutes, with additional 10 minutes allotted to questions and comments. The proposals should address teaching-related designs or practical examples of writing activities and tasks, which are successfully used to develop writing skills in English. Contributors are encouraged to clearly indicate the context, problem and solution, audience, and learning outcomes.
Poster presentations (5 min)
Poster presentations can address both practical ideas and research results. Poster presentations will require a brief introduction (5 min) at the allotted time. Presenters are encouraged to send the posters to the organizers one day before the scheduled time. See the recommendations for the format.
“Confetti” of teaching ideas (10 min)
This short format (10 min) aims at sharing teaching ideas (not necessarily piloted already). The proposal should contain the information about the targeted audience, teaching objective, and learning outcome.
Ready-to-use “food” stalls (10 min)
This format (10 min) is focused on materials design. The proposals should describe a successful writing activity (borrowed or self-created), indicating the targeted audience, teaching objective, timing, procedure, and learning outcome. The authorship, including AI collaboration, should be clearly stated. Presenters are encouraged to send the materials to the organizers one day before the scheduled time.

As it is a birthday party, AWC welcomes gifts in any preferable writing or hybrid format: brief video messages, heartfelt letters, short and sweet notes, rhymes and poems, captioned photo, memes, e-cards, virtual posters/glogsters, writing games and quests—boast your talent! Don’t forget to introduce yourself. Your gifts will be displayed for the conference participants. All AWC friends are kindly asked to send their birthday wishes before March 30. We’ll be preparing gifts, too.
Please send your virtual gifts to us at nzharkova@hse.ru or mmanasyan@hse.ru.
Writing contests (pre-conference event)
Enjoy celebratory camaraderie! We’re inviting you to take part in our writing contests. Let’s share the craft of writing and love for creativity. We’re sure you’ll beat AI. Are you ready to get a prize?
Research Partners’ Date
It is known that collaborative research has higher prospects for publication. The conference will provide an opportunity to find a TEFL research partner. Think of the topic, write it on the virtual board, with your contact details, and find a conference participant who is as passionate as you are about the topic. This may be a good start for your joint research publication journey.
Paper Feedback Station (60 min)
Join writing experts and AWC consultants for a 30-min individual sessions. Share your written piece. Working together on a draft paper, you will get hands-on experience of the tutor-tutee dialog. The aim of these dialogic sessions is to learn how to prioritize feedback, how to point out places of confusion so as to invite writers to evolve their own writing process. Prior registration is necessary.
